Wydad Casablanca qualified for the quarter-finals (round of eight) of the CAF Confederation Cup by defeating its guest Azam from Tanzania 2-0, securing the top spot in Group 2 on Sunday.
Wydad increased its tally to 15 points at the top of the group, leading by a three-point margin over Maniema Union, which won 3-0 against Nairobi United at the same time, accompanying the Moroccan team to the next round.
Azam occupied third place with nine points.

Wydad nearly opened the scoring early in the 6th minute when Ayoub Boucht fired a shot over the crossbar, before Azam’s Eddy Salomon Nado responded with a shot that hit the post in the 13th minute.
Wydad’s Hakim Ziyech unleashed a powerful shot that went wide of the post near halftime, ending the first half in a goalless draw.
Wydad took the lead in the 63rd minute after Nordin Amrabat broke down the left side and delivered a low cross that Pascal Masinando mistakenly scored into his own net.
Former Chelsea winger Ziyech tried again, firing a shot from the edge of the penalty area, which goalkeeper Aishi Manula pushed out for a corner kick.
Walid Naciri scored the insurance goal in stoppage time after following up on Ziyech’s powerful shot that rebounded off the goalkeeper.
