The Municipal Guard apparatus, affiliated with the Ministry of Local Government of the Libyan government mandated by the House of Representatives, has issued urgent instructions to its branches in various municipalities. The instructions mandate halting the movement of live poultry and closing markets selling birds, following the recording of Newcastle disease infections among poultry flocks.
The apparatus clarified in a statement that the decision was based on an official correspondence from the head of the management committee of the National Center for Animal Health, which confirmed the detection of infections, accompanied by high mortality rates and the spread of infection within breeding farms.
The head of the Municipal Guard apparatus stressed the necessity of stopping the transport of live poultry between municipalities, cities, and areas within the scope of each branch, in addition to closing markets, yards, and points selling live poultry and birds, and taking all necessary measures to prevent the spread of the disease.
The apparatus requested its relevant branches to submit detailed reports on the steps taken, confirming that the matter is of the highest priority and requires full commitment and swift implementation to preserve public health and the safety of livestock.
