The pavilion of Romania, the guest of honor at the current session of the Cairo International Book Fair, is preparing to launch a rich and intensive cultural program under the title “A Book for Friends: From the Danube River to the Nile River”.

Romania’s participation this year coincides with the celebration of the 120th anniversary of the establishment of official diplomatic relations between Egypt and Romania.

In a statement on this occasion, it was emphasized that the selection of the country as the fair’s guest of honor is not merely a symbolic title, but a “strategic cultural and intellectual platform”.

It was clarified that Romania will highlight, during the period from January 22 to February 3, its literary richness, ancient traditions, and academic excellence, by organizing more than 25 diverse events.

Literature as a Global Bridge
The official opening of the Romanian pavilion is scheduled for January 22, with high-level attendance including a selection of writers and cultural officials from both the Egyptian and Romanian sides.

The agenda for the first day includes prominent events such as: a discussion session on the literary scene in Romania and its commitment to promoting cultural exchange with Egypt, and the conference “In Praise of Universality” held in French under the title “Literature as a Bridge Between Cultures”, hosting the famous novelist and playwright Matei Vișniec, where his plays translated into Arabic will be presented for the first time.

In addition to a symposium on poetry and international exchange discussing the popularity of poetry anthologies in new literary markets, followed by the launch of the bilingual Egyptian-Romanian anthology “Contemporary Poetry Selections”.
