Tripoli, December 30, 2025 – The United Nations Support Mission in Libya expressed concern over the escalating conflict related to the constitutional judiciary, considering it a threat to the unity, independence, and integrity of the judiciary.

The Mission stated in a press release on Tuesday that the judiciary is a fundamental pillar for preserving the unity of the Libyan state, and any division affecting it carries far-reaching consequences encompassing all aspects of life in the country. It called on all parties to refrain from any actions that could lead to divisions within the judiciary or any statements that could be interpreted as provocative and increase tension.

The Mission’s statement emphasized the critical importance of restraint in the context of the current political divisions within the country, affirming that a unified and independent judiciary is the cornerstone of the rule of law and democratic governance.

The Mission urged all relevant Libyan judicial and political entities to engage in constructive dialogue to resolve this important issue in a manner that preserves the unity of the judicial institution and serves the supreme national interest of all Libya. It noted that it stands ready to provide any requested support for successful Libyan consensus-based efforts aimed at protecting judicial unity and strengthening the rule of law.
