Benghazi, January 9, 2026 — The Anti-Corruption Prosecution, under the Benghazi Attorney General’s Office, has ordered the detention of the Administrative and Financial Affairs official at Al-Brega General Hospital. It has also issued an order to apprehend and bring in the Financial Affairs auditor, in connection with cases related to the abuse of official authority and the embezzlement of public funds.
Investigations revealed that the accused deviated from their public duty by deliberately embezzling 340,000 dinars from funds allocated to support the medical institution with medical and paramedical staff. This was done by concluding service contracts with offices managed by the financial auditor, with the intent to complicate the procedures for examining them and to cover up the violations.
The investigations further clarified that the accused intended to dispose of an amount of 715,000 dinars for purposes other than those designated, in violation of the laws and regulations governing financial disbursement in public institutions.
Based on the investigations, the Public Prosecution decided to detain the Administrative and Financial Affairs official in custody pending the case, while continuing to pursue the financial auditor to take the necessary legal measures against him.
