Benghazi, December 22, 2025 – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the government mandated by Parliament has denied the accuracy of reports circulated by some media outlets and social media platforms regarding an Indian family being involved in a kidnapping incident within Libyan territory.

The Ministry stated in a release that the mentioned family was detained by the competent security authorities while attempting to use Libyan territory as a transit point as part of irregular migration to Europe.

The Ministry confirmed that it fully coordinated with the relevant security authorities to take the applicable legal measures, where the family’s situation was secured and all necessary arrangements for their safe and sound return to their home country were completed.

It clarified that the family was taken care of by a Libyan family, which provided them with accommodation and care throughout their stay in the country, according to the statement’s text.

The Ministry stressed the necessity of accuracy and credibility when reporting news related to Libya, calling on all media outlets to rely on official sources and avoid circulating inaccurate news due to its negative impact on public opinion.
