Tripoli, February 4, 2026 – The President of the Presidential Council called on all political forces to exercise restraint and closely follow the developments of the official investigation results into the assassination of presidential candidate Saif al-Islam Muammar Gaddafi, to ensure there is no impunity.

In a statement issued today, Wednesday, he said: “We have followed with great sorrow what was stated in the statement from the Attorney General’s office regarding the assassination incident, and the preliminary investigative procedures initiated by the Public Prosecution, which aim to uncover the circumstances and causes of the incident.”

The President of the Presidential Council expressed his full understanding of the sources of concern, welcoming the use of necessary technical support and expertise within legal frameworks to enhance the transparency of the investigations and accelerate their results, thereby strengthening public trust.

He offered his sincere condolences to the family of the deceased and his relatives, and to the noble Gaddafa tribe, calling on political, media, and social forces to control public discourse and reject incitement aimed at undermining the goal of the assassination, which is to sabotage national reconciliation efforts and the holding of free and fair elections in which the people choose their leadership.

The President of the Presidential Council concluded his statement by saying: “Libya is not governed by violence nor built on fear, killing outside the framework of the law is forbidden, and Libyan blood is precious and must not be tampered with.”
