Tripoli, January 8, 2026 – The High National Elections Commission has approved the final results for the municipal council elections in the third group, which includes the municipalities of (Benghazi, Qaminis, Al-Abyar, Tukrah, Suluq, Qasr al-Jadi, Sirte, Sabha). This approval comes after the completion of all legal and technical stages of the electoral process.
In its Decision No. (5), the Commission’s Council excluded the final results for the (Tobruk) Municipal Council elections due to the appeals phase not being completed. The results for Tobruk are expected to be announced next week.

Tripoli

Tukrah
Tukrah is an ancient city located in northeastern Libya, historically known as Tocra, which was founded as a Greek colony in the 7th century BCE. It later became a significant Roman and Byzantine settlement, with archaeological remains including early Christian basilicas. Today, its ruins reflect its importance as a trading center in the Cyrenaica region.
Suluq
Suluq is a town in northeastern Libya, historically known as the site of a significant battle in 1923 during the Italian colonization of Libya, where indigenous resistance forces clashed with Italian troops. Today, it remains a local administrative center with a history tied to the region’s colonial and anti-colonial struggles.
Qasr al-Jadi
Qasr al-Jadi is a remote desert castle located in northeastern Jordan, believed to have been constructed in the early 8th century during the Umayyad period. It served as a caravanserai and military outpost, providing shelter and security along important trade routes. The structure is a well-preserved example of early Islamic architecture, featuring a fortified square layout with a central courtyard.
Sirte
Sirte is a coastal city in Libya that gained prominence as the birthplace and stronghold of former leader Muammar Gaddafi, who developed it extensively during his rule. Historically a modest trading post, it was the site of intense fighting during the 2011 Libyan Civil War and again in 2016.
Sabha
