The disciplinary committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) issued strict sanctions against the Algerian Football Federation on Wednesday regarding incidents that occurred during the Algeria vs. Nigeria quarter-final match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The sanctions included a two-match suspension for goalkeeper Luka Zidane and a four-match suspension for defender Rafik Belghali, two of which are suspended, along with financial fines totaling one hundred thousand US dollars. These penalties will be enforced during the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualification matches.

The disciplinary committee also imposed a financial fine of five thousand US dollars on the Algerian Football Federation due to the inappropriate behavior of the Algerian national team, following five players receiving yellow cards during the match. Additionally, a fine of twenty-five thousand US dollars was levied due to inappropriate actions by some players after the match’s conclusion, which damaged the event’s image. A further fine of five thousand US dollars was imposed on the Algerian Federation for the use of fireworks by Algerian national team supporters in the stands.
