Tripoli, December 28, 2025 – The Public Prosecution has ordered the preventive detention of a former financial controller and a former internal auditor at the Ministry of Health pending investigation. They are implicated in the misuse of their official authority related to the disbursement of 86,404,095 dinars from funds allocated to combat the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

The Attorney General’s office stated in a release that investigations conducted by a deputy prosecutor at the office revealed that the two accused authorized the disbursement of the funds to companies that had not received official assignments from the administration to supply medical equipment and supplies supporting pandemic response efforts. Furthermore, no work consistent with the purpose of the fund allocation was assigned to these companies.

Based on this, the Prosecution decided to detain the two accused preventively and ordered the pursuit of all other parties involved in these violations.
