On Thursday morning, a celebration was held to mark World Arabic Language Day, organized by the Arabic Language Academy in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and Cognitive Development and the High Council of State.
The ceremony, held in the Council’s hall, was attended by a number of officials, including the Second Deputy of the High Council of State, the President of the Arabic Language Academy, the Director of Decision Support at the Council of Ministers, the Director of the Social Council for Libyan Tuareg, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture and Cognitive Development for Cultural Activities Affairs, and a number of department directors from the Ministry’s office. Also present were a group of professors, researchers, and individuals interested in the Arabic language, culture, and national identity.
In a speech on this occasion, the Minister emphasized that celebrating ‘the Language of Dhad’ is a celebration of civilizational identity, confirming that the Arabic language in Libya represents a solid pillar of national unity and a mirror reflecting the richness and diversity of Libyan society. This places a multiplied responsibility on official and scientific institutions, foremost among them the Arabic Language Academy, to protect it and develop its use in the public sphere, educational systems, and media.
‘The Shield of Dhad’ for Language Masters
The occasion was crowned with the awarding of this year’s ‘Shield of Dhad’ to a member of the Arabic Language Academy from the sister state of Tunisia, in appreciation of his distinguished scientific efforts in serving the sciences of the language.

The recognition also included a group of researchers, professors, and historians who have spent years in linguistic research and scrutiny, painting a picture of intergenerational integration at the close of the celebration in order to preserve the nation’s linguistic and cultural trust.
The organizing committee also took the initiative to honor the Minister of Culture in recognition of her efforts in supporting the presence of the Arabic language in the national scene.
