A survey published today, Tuesday, shows that four out of five workers believe artificial intelligence will impact their daily tasks in the workplace, with members of “Generation Z” among the most concerned. This comes amid increasing corporate reliance on AI-powered chatbots and automation.

An annual report stated that job postings requiring “AI agent” skills have risen by 1587 percent. Survey data indicates that AI and automation are increasingly replacing low-complexity transactions and roles.

The survey included 27,000 workers and 1,225 employers, in addition to an analysis of more than three million job postings across 35 markets.

Labor markets are under immense pressure as companies worldwide intensify job cuts, coupled with declining consumer confidence, following disruptions caused by geopolitical tensions.

Companies focused on AI have begun replacing jobs with automation, while most firms are still awaiting tangible returns from an exceptional wave of investment in AI that is expected to shape the landscape for years to come.

The survey data showed that nearly half of the workers interviewed fear that this emerging technology will benefit companies more than it benefits the workforce.

artificial intelligence

Artificial intelligence (AI) refers to the field of computer science dedicated to creating systems capable of performing tasks that typically require human intelligence. Its modern history began in the mid-20th century, evolving from theoretical concepts and simple programs to today’s advanced machine learning and neural networks.

AI-powered chatbots

AI-powered chatbots are computer programs designed to simulate human conversation, often using natural language processing and machine learning techniques. Their development traces back to early rule-based systems like ELIZA in the 1960s, but they have evolved significantly with advances in artificial intelligence and large language models. Today, they are widely used in customer service, virtual assistance, and various interactive applications.

automation

Automation refers to the use of technology, machinery, and control systems to operate processes with minimal human intervention. Its history is deeply tied to the Industrial Revolution, with significant advancements occurring through the 20th century with the introduction of computers and robotics. Today, it is a transformative force across manufacturing, services, and daily life, driven by artificial intelligence and sophisticated software.

AI agent

The AI agent is a computational system designed to perform tasks autonomously, often using artificial intelligence techniques like machine learning. Its history is rooted in mid-20th-century computer science, evolving from simple rule-based programs to today’s complex models capable of reasoning and interaction.

Generation Z

“Generation Z” refers to the demographic cohort born roughly between the mid-to-late 1990s and early 2010s, following Millennials. This group is defined by having been raised in the digital age, with the internet and social media being central to their communication, identity formation, and worldview from a young age. Their historical context is shaped by events like the Great Recession, climate change activism, and the rise of global connectivity.
