Al Kufra, January 22, 2026 – The official spokesperson for the Al Kufra Municipal Council announced the arrival of representatives from a specialized Turkish company, commissioned by the Development and Reconstruction Fund, to begin maintenance work on the runways at Al Kufra Airport.

Following the announcement of the airport’s closure for one month, the spokesperson explained that work has already begun on the 400-meter-long old auxiliary runway, which was causing difficulties for aircraft landings and damaging their wheels. It was indicated that the completion of this work is expected within one month.

He added that the Development Fund has commissioned a Turkish company to maintain the main runway, which has been out of service since 1993, noting that the company has already arrived and inspected the site, with implementation set to begin within three months.

He confirmed that flights will resume immediately upon the completion of the auxiliary runway within the month, while work on the main runway proceeds in parallel. This will allow Al Kufra Airport to return to full operational capacity with two runways.
