Benghazi, January 21, 2026 – An official from the Libyan Red Crescent revealed that among the accidents and emergency cases dealt with by emergency and ambulance teams during the severe storm and strong winds that hit the city of Benghazi and surrounding areas, there were two fatalities.
The official stated that, as part of their humanitarian and national duty and within the framework of rapid response efforts to citizens’ reports, the central operations room of the Libyan Red Crescent continued its intensive field work within Benghazi, where emergency and ambulance teams dealt with a number of urgent reports.
According to the official’s statement, the cases handled by the Red Crescent field teams included:
– A fire inside the Gian Qaryounis Mall and the transfer of an unconscious person to the collective clinic.
– Falling utility poles near the Sports City island and securing the site.
– The collapse of a house wall (fence) behind the Akhrabeesh lighthouse, resulting in the death of a young man; the body was transferred according to approved procedures.
– A natural death case in the Al-Keish (Al-Sabala) area.
– Transfer of a case of respiratory distress from the Shabna area to the Benghazi Medical Center.
– A fallen tree in the Al-Daqadousta area, removed from the main road.
– A fallen sign near Al-Burka Square, with the site secured.
– The death of a girl on Beirut Street due to a building wall collapse.
– A fallen utility pole near the Al-Ahly Qaryounis Club island.
– A sign falling on a security guard on Tripoli Road, who was transferred to receive first aid.
– A traffic accident in the Al-Salam neighborhood.
The official concluded the statement by emphasizing the continued high readiness and rapid response of the Libyan Red Crescent’s central operations room to all reports, along with permanent field presence to protect lives and serve citizens.
