Spanish club Real Madrid has submitted a formal request to the investigating judge in the Negreira case for full access to all financial documents related to payments made by FC Barcelona over more than 10 years, in order to verify their legal and economic justifications.
This request was revealed via a post on the platform “X”.
It was explained that the royal club seeks to review all audit processes and reports regarding due diligence and forensic audits prepared by external companies concerning Barcelona’s economic management between 2010 and 2021, whenever they are related to these events.
Real Madrid also demanded access to more than 600 documents submitted by Barcelona to the case file in July 2023, in addition to details of the internal investigation conducted by the Catalan club, including preliminary and final reports, interviews conducted, and verification processes carried out.
Real Madrid moves to uncover the circumstances
In this context, it was confirmed that these documents could reveal “several important leads,” indicating that Real Madrid aims to clarify the nature and reasons for the payments through them.
The requests also include access to budgets, internal audits, annual accounts, external audit reports, and minutes of the tax governance committee at Barcelona between 2010 and 2018, with a special focus on payments made to companies linked to José María Enríquez Negreira.
According to the information, the primary goal is to “present all documents and clarify what was paid and why,” and to verify whether these large sums were justified from an economic, tax, and contractual perspective.
Carlos Naval… an important witness in the Negreira scandal case
The request also included hearing the testimony of Carlos Naval Piosca, and demanding that relevant offices and authorities provide additional correspondence and documents related to the case.
Carlos Naval is a well-known figure within the Spanish football club FC Barcelona, having worked as a delegate for the first team for many decades. He is known for his constant presence on the substitutes’ bench and around the team, dealing with players and management.
The decision now rests with the investigating judge, who will determine whether to approve these requests within a case that continues to expand in scope and depth regarding the payments made by Barcelona over many years.
Rosell admits meeting Negreira
These developments come after former Barcelona president Sandro Rosell admitted to having a personal acquaintance with José María Enríquez Negreira, the former vice-president of the referees’ committee, during his time at the club.
Rosell gave his statement in the famous case publicly known as the “Negreira case.” In his statement, Rosell said, “I met Mr. Negreira in 2003 when we entered the first board of directors under the presidency of Mr. Laporta.”
He added, “Someone introduced me to Mr. Negreira as the person who provides arbitration consulting services to the club, and that’s how I met him. From 2003 to 2005, I sometimes saw him at the stadium preparing his reports and providing consultations to the club.”
This part of the testimony was described as “contradicting and disproving” the testimony of current president Joan Laporta, in which he denied meeting Negreira.
Rosell continued, “I believe that often he did not come, because someone providing arbitration consultation is better off doing it via television, as it allows for watching replays more precisely, thus making the evaluation, consultation, and reports more accurate.”
He added, “I saw him at the club’s facilities, whether with the first team or with Barcelona B, and when I resigned in 2005, I did not see him again. Through the press, I learned that after my departure, his services increased.”
