The Paris Public Prosecutor’s Office announced on Tuesday, via the platform ‘X’, that it was leaving the platform. In its message, it referred to a search conducted at the company’s offices in France on suspicion of several violations.

The Prosecutor’s Office stated, without going into further details: “Follow us on LinkedIn and Instagram.” Its message referred to a search of the platform’s offices in France carried out by the National Cybercrime Unit of the Gendarmerie, in cooperation with the European police agency ‘Europol’, as part of an investigation opened in January 2025.

Earlier, the Paris Public Prosecutor’s Office announced that it had summoned the owner of the ‘X’ platform, Elon Musk, for questioning on April 20.

It was stated that Musk and Linda Yaccarino, the former CEO of ‘X’, have been summoned for questioning on April 20 “as the de facto and legal managers of the platform during the period of the alleged violations.”

These measures are part of an investigation opened at the beginning of 2025, following complaints filed by MPs who denounced the bias of Musk-owned ‘X’ algorithms, which potentially negatively affected the platform’s performance.

The investigations have since expanded to include other crimes, including complicity in the possession, distribution, display, or organized provision of child pornography, as well as sexually explicit deepfakes, and Holocaust denial.

‘X’ criticizes French measures
For its part, the ‘X’ platform criticized the French measures in a statement on Tuesday, describing them as “politicized.” The platform’s ‘International Government Affairs’ team said: “The Paris Prosecutor’s Office widely promoted the raid, clearly indicating that today’s action was an abusive and demonstrative act by law enforcement, designed to achieve illegitimate political objectives.” The statement continued: “The allegations on which today’s raid was based are unfounded, and X categorically denies committing any violation.”

In addition to Musk and Yaccarino, it was reported that “X employees have been summoned for questioning between April 20 and 24, 2026.” It was clarified that “these voluntary interviews with executives will allow them to present their position on the facts and clarify proposed measures to comply with the rules if necessary.”

In a related context, the UK’s data protection regulatory body announced on Tuesday the opening of an investigation into Elon Musk’s platform and his artificial intelligence company ‘XAI’ regarding sexually explicit images created by the chatbot ‘Grok’, which has caused worldwide dismay.
