Gharyan, January 31, 2026 – The Education Supervisor for the Gharyan Municipality stated that the Education Supervision is facing a number of challenges during the current academic year, foremost among them is overcrowding in some classrooms due to an increase in student numbers compared to the number of available schools. He indicated that this issue will be gradually overcome as a number of new schools, still under construction, become operational next academic year, which will help alleviate pressure and improve the educational environment.

He explained that among the most prominent difficulties facing education in Gharyan this year is a shortage in a number of teaching specializations, similar to other education supervision offices. He clarified that the Supervision has dealt with this matter by communicating with the General Reserve and the Shortage Mitigation Committee, which helped cover approximately 80 to 90 percent of the needs. Efforts are ongoing to complete the remaining shortfall, especially in the specializations of Mathematics, Statistics, Arabic Language, Islamic Education, and Physics.

He pointed out that the operational budgets for schools arrived later than their scheduled date, as they were supposed to be disbursed during the summer period. This caused pressure on school administrations, forcing some to close their doors for short periods to carry out urgent maintenance work. He confirmed that this delay negatively impacted the start of the educational process.

He noted that the Supervision observed a flaw in the budget calculation mechanism for some schools, where the allocated amounts did not correspond to the number of students. He explained that some schools with over 500 students were allocated budgets lower than the due amount. The relevant authorities have been contacted regarding this matter, and the Supervision is still awaiting practical solutions to address this issue.

Regarding maintenance, he reported that a number of schools, especially older ones, require comprehensive maintenance. However, the operational budget does not legally allow for major maintenance work. Efforts have been limited to light maintenance in some educational institutions, such as restrooms and painting, in the absence of fundamental solutions so far.

Concerning parents’ complaints, the Education Supervisor confirmed that the Supervision has formed a specialized follow-up committee responsible for receiving and handling complaints on the ground, whether related to students, teachers, or cases of bullying within schools. He indicated that the committee conducts regular visits to educational institutions and follows up on issues according to approved legal frameworks.

He affirmed the Supervision’s keenness to support school activities of all kinds, especially sports, cultural, and artistic activities. He praised the role of the School Activities Department and its supervising staff in organizing drawing competitions, Quran recitation competitions, curricular and sports competitions, and working with a team spirit.

In conclusion, the Education Supervisor for the Gharyan Municipality stressed that the Supervision oversees more than 117 educational institutions and continuously monitors their conditions. He expressed hope for providing additional study seats and equipment in the next phase, along with supporting maintenance work, to ensure an improved educational environment and an elevated level of the educational process in Gharyan Municipality.
