Tarhuna, December 20, 2025 – Olive farmers in the Murzuq Basin have appealed to the relevant authorities to expedite the establishment of an olive press in the region, given the importance of this project in supporting farmers and improving the quality of agricultural production.

In a statement, the coordinator of the agricultural sector in the Tarhuna municipality said that the lack of an olive press in the Murzuq Basin has forced farmers to transport their crops to distant areas, leading to increased production costs and spoilage of part of the harvest.

He added that the region is witnessing a noticeable expansion in olive tree cultivation, but the lack of appropriate processing infrastructure limits the economic benefit from this product.

He confirmed that establishing an olive press in the Murzuq Basin would contribute to supporting local production, improving farmers’ incomes, and providing job opportunities, which would positively impact the region’s agricultural economy.
