American star Matt Damon revealed that the Netflix platform has begun imposing a different direction in filmmaking, which involves re-explaining the plot “three or four times within the dialogue.” This is due to the declining level of viewers’ attention while watching from home and their preoccupation with mobile phones.

Damon’s comments came during his appearance with his friend and artistic partner Ben Affleck on the program “The Joe Rogan Experience,” to promote their new Netflix film “The Rip.” The duo spoke about the shifts the platform has created in the way cinematic stories are told.

A Different Viewing Experience
Damon explained that the experience of watching movies at home is radically different from watching them in cinema halls, where the audience gives the film “a completely different level of attention.” This prompts Netflix to present action and thriller scenes early in the film’s runtime. He added that there are discussions behind the scenes about repeating the plot explanation within the dialogue, to ensure the story reaches the viewer even if their attention is distracted during viewing.
