Liverpool’s new signing, Jérémie Quijoux, suffered a “serious” shoulder injury during his club Rennes’ match against Lens in the French league on Saturday, raising doubts about the defender’s readiness before his move to Anfield this summer.
The match ended in a 3-1 defeat for Rennes, with Quijoux taking a heavy fall in the second half and appearing to be in significant pain as he left the pitch.
The Rennes coach told reporters after the match, “Jérémie injured his shoulder, while [another player injured in the same match] had a muscular injury.”
He added, “We will see what happens, but both injuries are indeed serious.”
Last Monday, an agreement was reached to sign Quijoux for £60 million ($80 million), but the 20-year-old defender will remain with his current club until the end of the season.
Liverpool, currently sitting sixth in the Premier League table, will host their next opponent on Sunday while missing four defenders due to injuries.
