Despite the disbursement of February salaries through the ‘Your Salary Now’ system, estimated at around 57% this week, the crisis of cash shortage persists. This is due to the fact that the Central Bank of Libya and commercial banks have not yet begun distributing cash liquidity.

According to private sources to the “Bekum” application, a number of commercial banks are scheduled to start distributing cash liquidity starting next Sunday. However, no official statement has been issued clarifying the distribution mechanism or the approved withdrawal limits.

This situation coincides with increasing complaints from citizens about the difficulty of obtaining cash, which has exacerbated their daily hardships, especially amid rising prices and increased living expenses.

Citizens have called on the Central Bank of Libya and the managements of commercial banks to raise the cash withdrawal limit to 3,000 dinars in cash and 1,000 dinars via bank cards. They emphasized that this increase has become an urgent necessity, particularly with the approaching holy month of Ramadan and its associated additional expenses.

Citizens hope for urgent measures to alleviate the severity of the crisis and ensure the regular provision of liquidity. This would contribute to achieving financial stability and meeting the basic needs of Libyan families.

Central Bank of Libya

The Central Bank of Libya is the country’s primary monetary authority, established in 1956 to issue currency and manage monetary policy. It has played a critical and often divisive role during periods of conflict since 2011, with rival administrations at times claiming control over separate branches of the institution.

Ramadan

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, prayer, reflection, and community. Its history is rooted in the Islamic tradition that it was during this month that the Quran was first revealed to the Prophet Muhammad. The fast from dawn to sunset commemorates this revelation and is one of the Five Pillars of Islam.
