Data from the Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy showed that Libya ranked first among importers of used South Korean cars during the period from January to November of last year, acquiring approximately 119,000 vehicles.

Kyrgyzstan came in second place with 104,000 cars, followed by Turkey with 93,000 cars, then the UAE with 45,000 cars, and Russia with 43,000 cars.

Leap in Used Car Exports

  • South Korea’s exports of used cars increased by 82.6% year-on-year during the first 11 months of the current year.
  • The value of these exports reached $8.4 billion compared to $4.6 billion in the same period last year.
  • Used cars accounted for 12.7% of total Korean car exports, up from 6.1% last year.

Decline in New Car Exports

  • Excluding used cars, vehicle exports declined by 4.2% to $57.6 billion.
  • The decline is attributed to US tariffs and the Hyundai Motor Group’s efforts to expand its production overseas.
