Egypt
Egypt is home to one of the world’s oldest civilizations, with a recorded history spanning over 5,000 years and famed for its monumental pharaonic architecture like the Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx. Its rich cultural legacy, from ancient hieroglyphs and mythology to its pivotal role in the Greco-Roman and Islamic worlds, continues to be central to its national identity. Modern Egypt remains a major political and cultural hub in the Arab world, centered on the Nile River.
Tripoli
Tripoli is the capital and largest city of Libya, with a history dating back to the 7th century BC when it was founded by the Phoenicians. It later became a significant Roman city and a major center under various empires, including the Ottoman, before becoming Libya’s modern capital. The city’s historic medina, with its Red Castle (Assaraya al-Hamra) and ancient city walls, reflects its long and layered past.
Libyan prisons
Libyan prisons have historically been sites of severe human rights abuses, particularly under the Gaddafi regime, which used them to detain political dissidents. Following the 2011 revolution and subsequent conflict, reports from international organizations indicate that conditions have often remained dire, with widespread arbitrary detention, torture, and overcrowding in facilities controlled by various militias and state authorities.
