Indonesia temporarily blocked the Grok chatbot, owned by Elon Musk, on Saturday due to the risk of AI-generated pornographic content, becoming the first country to restrict access to the tool.
This move follows condemnations from governments and regulatory bodies in Europe and Asia regarding sexual content on the application, with some opening investigations into the matter.

The company that developed Grok stated on Thursday that it decided to limit image generation and editing to paying subscribers as it attempts to close security loopholes that allowed the production of sexual content, including images of children in revealing clothing.
Widespread Global Protests
These images, created by modifying photos or videos of people to remove their clothing, sparked widespread global protests.
When several users contacted Grok on Friday, the tool responded that “image creation and editing are currently available to users with paid subscriptions. You can subscribe to access these features.”
A spokesperson for the British Prime Minister said on Friday that Grok’s decision “simply turns a feature that enables the creation of illegal images into a premium service” and constitutes “an insult to victims of discrimination against women and sexual violence.”
