A number of Hollywood stars, during their appearance on the red carpet at the Sundance Film Festival on Saturday, denounced the killing of an American by agents from the federal immigration agency on the streets of Minneapolis.
An actress who attended the festival for the screening of the film “The Invite” said that the killing of a second protester in just three weeks by federal security agents is “unbelievable,” adding: “I can’t believe we are seeing people being killed in the street.”
Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old nurse, was killed by federal security agents in Minneapolis in the northern United States. His death came about three weeks after Renee Good, also a 37-year-old American, was killed by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent in Minneapolis.
An Act Contrary to American Values
The actress, who was wearing a badge with the phrase “ICE Out,” affirmed that the U.S. government’s violence towards people exercising their right to free speech is “an act contrary to American values.”
She added: “We may have a government that is trying in one way or another to justify and legitimize this violence, but we Americans will not do that.”
For her part, another actress, who attended the festival for the screening of the film “The Gallerist,” said: “What is happening in our country is disgraceful.”
She added: “What President Donald Trump, Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement are doing to our citizens and illegal immigrants is disgraceful and must stop.”
It is noted that a man was killed by federal security agents in Minneapolis on Saturday, according to American media reports citing the city’s police chief, less than three weeks after a woman was killed by these forces deployed as part of a campaign against irregular immigration.
The Department of Homeland Security said in a statement that the man was armed, without providing further details about the circumstances of the incident or confirming his death. The governor of Minnesota denounced “another horrific shooting.”
