After a year and three months since its opening last October, Kamil Hassan Al-Maghour Library announced the results of its first year, showcasing a number of positive indicators that reflect its growing presence and cultural role in encouraging reading and building a sustainable relationship with its visitors.

The library highlighted the significant turnout from children of both genders, alongside a growing interest in reading among youth. It was noted that young males joined reading activities at a later stage compared to girls, which was a source of joy and satisfaction for the library’s management due to its positive implications for the expanding interest in books.

The library also continued to receive book donations from individuals, which contributed to diversifying its sources and content. Some editions arrived signed by their authors, in addition to a continuous supply from publishing houses, although the pace of the latter has seen a relative decline recently.

Cultural Activities
In terms of activities, the library continued to offer scientific and mental programs for its visitors. Among the most prominent was the game of chess, which most children learned. It helped foster an atmosphere of familiarity, fair competition, focus, and motivation, and served as a supportive factor for the increased interest in reading. Additionally, providing sports books, especially on football, encouraged children to research, discuss, and enjoy the content.

On the other hand, the evaluation indicated that the legal library section still has limited attendance compared to other sections.

Borrowing Section
The library marked a milestone by opening borrowing services to its registered members and friends. This was a step met with initial hesitation, but it achieved remarkable results. Borrowers showed clear commitment to return deadlines, maintaining the books in good condition, and a desire to continue, which positively reflected on their benefit from the content.

The library also began encouraging children to express themselves and write short stories. This initiative is still in its early stages but has revealed promising talents and discoveries.

A special relationship developed between the librarian and the library’s friends and visitors, thanks to her ethics, professionalism, and patience. This contributed to creating a refined and stimulating atmosphere, which also positively impacted the female volunteers involved in teaching children proper reading and pronunciation. Children progressed from merely looking at pictures to bringing their own books and requesting to read and learn stories.

Kamil Hassan Al-Maghour Library affirmed its continued role as a private library open to the public. Its visitors, from children to youth, have chosen to belong to it, respect its rules, and feel that it is a space that belongs to them, reciprocating with care and affection for it.
