Over time, the exercises were no longer just physical effort; they transformed into a safe space where he regained a sense of control and achievement. Each additional weight he lifted became a dual step towards building his body and solidifying his self-confidence and ability to face the world.
Autism: From Constraint to Source of Strength
Tom Stoltman points out that autism is not only part of his personal identity but also a “symbol of his strength.” It gave him an exceptional ability to focus, be disciplined, and adhere strictly to routine—qualities crucial in a sport that requires the utmost mental endurance before physical endurance.
With this understanding, he was able to transform what is socially viewed as an obstacle into a tool for excellence. He would shut out the external world during training and devote his focus entirely to his goal, in a long journey of patience and perseverance that formed the foundation for his athletic and human success.
