Sabratha, February 14, 2026 – The official in charge of health prevention and the control of public health pests at the General Department of Environmental Sanitation Affairs conducted a visit to the Sabratha Municipality to discuss the mechanism for combating cutaneous leishmaniasis and limiting its spread in the city.

During a meeting held with the Mayor, the Municipal Council member responsible for environmental sanitation and public cleanliness, the Director of the Environmental Sanitation Affairs Department at the Municipality, and the Head of the Health Affairs Department, it was agreed on the necessity of establishing a national plan to combat cutaneous leishmaniasis in the region and supporting the Municipality’s Environmental Sanitation Affairs Department with the necessary equipment and tools for the campaign.

It was also agreed to follow approved methods for the safe disposal of medical waste under the supervision of the relevant municipal departments.

Sabratha is an ancient Roman city located on the Mediterranean coast of modern-day Libya, originally founded as a Phoenician trading post around 500 BCE.
