The Italian company Eni North Africa and its partners have commenced drilling their first deepwater exploration well in the offshore area of the Gulf of Sirte.
Drilling operations for this well will be conducted using a drilling vessel.
The well is located within Contract Area (38/3) in the offshore area of the Gulf of Sirte, where the water depth at the site is approximately 1,900 meters. The well is expected to reach a depth of 4,500 meters.
Eni North Africa
Eni North Africa refers to the regional operations of the Italian energy company Eni in North African countries, primarily focused on hydrocarbon exploration and production. Its history in the region dates back to the 1950s, with significant and long-standing partnerships, particularly in Libya and Algeria, where it has developed major oil and gas fields. This presence has made Eni a key player in the energy sector and in the economic relations between Italy and North Africa.
Gulf of Sirte
The Gulf of Sirte is a large body of water in the Mediterranean Sea along the northern coast of Libya. Historically, it was the site of the World War II Battle of Sirte and was later the focal point of a 1973 Libyan claim designating it as “The Line of Death” under international law.
Contract Area (38/3)
“Contract Area (38/3)” is a designation for a specific oil and gas exploration block in the Gulf of Thailand. It is historically significant as the location of the Erawan gas field, discovered in the early 1970s, which became one of Thailand’s most important energy resources. The area has been developed through production-sharing contracts between the Thai government and various international energy companies.
