Tripoli, July 28, 2026 – A workshop on “The Role of the Case Management Department in Electoral Disputes” began today, Tuesday, at the media center of the High National Elections Commission. The workshop is organized in cooperation with the Supreme Judicial Council and with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), running from July 28 to 30.
The opening session was attended by Commission Board Member Abubaker Murdah, along with a number of advisors, as part of efforts to enhance institutional cooperation between the Commission and its partners in the electoral process, and to build specialized legal capacities in the field of electoral science and appeals, in accordance with international standards.
The first day’s proceedings began with a review of the workshop’s objectives and themes, followed by a session titled “International Standards for Elections and Electoral Systems,” which covered the key international principles governing the electoral process and the foundations of different electoral systems.
The program included a session titled “Characteristics and Concept of Electoral Dispute,” which reviewed the features that distinguish electoral disputes from other types of disputes, their nature, and the procedures for handling them.
The first day concluded with a practical simulation of election day, aimed at enhancing the practical skills of participants and linking theoretical aspects with field applications, thereby contributing to developing the efficiency of legal and judicial personnel and enhancing the integrity and transparency of the electoral process.
According to the Elections Commission, this workshop is part of the Commission’s programs aimed at strengthening institutional partnerships, consolidating the rule of law, and raising the level of technical and legal readiness to manage electoral entitlements efficiently and professionally, thus enhancing trust in the electoral process and keeping pace with best international practices.
