Foreign currency exchange rates rise against the dinar in parallel market

Tripoli (Al-Mashhad) – Libya’s parallel (black) currency markets recorded a noticeable divergence in foreign exchange rates against the Libyan dinar on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, amid continued volatility and rising demand for cash, which deepened the price gap between cash transactions and bank instrument dealings.

Market movement showed slight differences in the US dollar exchange rate between major cities and markets; it rose relatively in Tripoli to 8.73 dinars, while in Benghazi it recorded 8.72 dinars, and in Zliten it reached 8.73 dinars. In the same context, the euro recorded a new rise to 9.93 dinars, and the British pound also saw a new increase to 11.40 dinars.

Regarding external transfers (parallel markets), the transfer dollar to Turkey recorded 8.77 dinars, and the transfer dollar to Dubai recorded 8.75 dinars.

Dollar Prices via Bank Instruments

Trading of bank instruments reflected additional pressures and a clear price difference from standard cash in various major commercial banks as follows:

  • Trade and Development Bank: 8.82 dinars.

  • Unity Bank: 8.81 dinars (and in Benghazi: 8.83 dinars).

  • Republic Bank: 8.81 dinars.

  • National Commercial Bank: 8.81 dinars.

  • Development Bank (Benghazi): 8.83 dinars.

Economic experts believe that this significant gap between the cash price and clearing instruments places increasing pressure on local markets, amid daily close monitoring by citizens due to the direct impact of these changes on living costs and the prices of basic goods.
