Cairo, February 4, 2026 – Egypt and Turkey affirmed their aspiration to support a political process with Libyan ownership and leadership, facilitated by the United Nations, aiming to preserve Libya’s security, stability, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political unity.
This was stated in a joint declaration issued at the conclusion of the second meeting of the Egypt-Turkey High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council, held in Cairo on Wednesday.
It was stated during a press conference that there is a shared outlook to end the governmental division in Libya, conduct simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections, and secure the withdrawal of all foreign forces and mercenaries from Libya.
It was added that there is agreement on supporting the UN-led path for a political settlement in Libya alongside a Libyan-Libyan solution, appreciating joint efforts concerning achieving stability in Libya.
It was emphasized that preserving Libya’s unity and territorial integrity to establish permanent stability remains a shared goal.
It was stated during the joint press conference, “We agree on supporting the tracks that will be implemented under Libyan leadership.”
