Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon, speaks during the American Business Forum at the Cassia Center in Miami, on November 6, 2025.
Blue Origin, owned by Jeff Bezos, announced yesterday, Wednesday, in a statement that it intends to create its own internet network through a constellation of satellites, with the service expected to be available by the end of 2027, thereby competing with SpaceX’s Starlink and Amazon’s Project Kuiper.
Blue Origin plans to use a network of 5,408 satellites in low Earth orbit, at an altitude of up to 2,000 kilometers, and in medium Earth orbit, ranging between 2,000 and 35,786 kilometers, to build its “TeraWave” system.
Unlike Starlink and Project Kuiper, whose services are available to the public, TeraWave will be dedicated exclusively to institutions, specifically “companies, data centers, and government agencies that need a stable internet connection for their vital operations,” as Blue Origin explained.
Only One Hundred Thousand Customers
The company indicated that it will target only about one hundred thousand customers when the service begins operation, while Starlink and Project Kuiper are available to millions.
