The Arab Theatre Organization has opened submissions for the seventeenth edition of its playwriting competition for adults, over 18 years old, for the year 2026, titled: “Humans in a Post-Human World.”
This edition comes amid astonishing technological acceleration, prompting the question: “In the age of artificial intelligence, has humanity created its own destroyer?” according to a statement from the organization.
It was clarified that the competition aims to celebrate texts that envision the dangers of a “post-human” world, evoking the legacy of the writer who predicted robots in 1921, to pose an essential question to writers: “What should we write to protect humanity and the human spirit while ensuring development and growth?”
Participation Guidelines
The organization has set specific guidelines for participation, most notably: the text must be “Arab in spirit, human in dimensions,” be entirely new, not previously published, awarded, or performed in a theatrical production, and must fully adhere to the dramatic framework specified for this edition.
