Amazon announced on Wednesday the cancellation of 16 thousand jobs worldwide as part of a restructuring plan that includes plans to eliminate 14 thousand jobs, announced in October.
In a statement, it was said that the layoffs aim to “reduce management levels, enhance a sense of responsibility, and remove bureaucracy.”
Media reports in October indicated that a total of about 30 thousand jobs are planned to be cut, affecting nearly 10% of Amazon’s 350 thousand corporate jobs, without impacting workers in the distribution and warehouse sectors, who constitute the vast majority of the company’s 1.5 million employees.
The company declined to comment on these reports at the time, which suggested they come amid increased investments in artificial intelligence.
‘Cuts’ Without Notice
Amazon did not provide any details about the latest cuts on Wednesday, only stating that “each team will continue to assess the sense of responsibility, speed of execution, and ability to innovate to meet customer needs and make necessary adjustments.”
