Al-Majd Sports, Cultural, and Social Club announced on Monday the suspension of its first football team’s activity in the Libyan Premier League “Dawrina,” due to financial distress and the absence of material support from the relevant authorities. This step reflects the scale of the crisis affecting some Libyan clubs before the start of the competition.

The club’s management had previously appealed to all official bodies and Libyan clubs before the start of the season about the necessity of providing sufficient financial support to ensure the team’s entry into the competition. However, the lack of response left the club facing a difficult choice in managing the team’s affairs and protecting the rights of players and financial dues.

The club’s statement indicated that weak financial capabilities prevented the team from continuing in upcoming matches, forcing the management to make the suspension decision to preserve the club’s stability. It confirmed that this decision applies only to the first football team, without affecting the club’s other sports and cultural activities.

This development poses a major challenge to the Libyan Premier League competition, especially with the increasing number of clubs suffering from similar financial crises. This raises questions about the future of the season and the necessity for the concerned authorities to intervene to provide support and ensure the regular continuation of the competition.

It is worth noting that the Libyan Premier League “Dawrina” has witnessed repeated demands from clubs in recent weeks to secure the necessary funding, in an attempt to avoid the suspension of the competition or the exclusion of some teams from participation.
