Tripoli, February 5, 2026 – The head of the Government of National Unity offered his condolences on Thursday to the family of the late Colonel Muammar Gaddafi and the Gaddafa tribe on the death of Saif al-Islam Muammar Gaddafi.
In a post on his official Facebook page, he stated that the assassination of the Libyan citizen Saif al-Islam Gaddafi is a reminder that Libyan blood, regardless of whose it is, remains a red line that cannot be compromised. He added that paths of assassination and exclusion have never produced a state or stability, but have instead deepened division and burdened the national memory with wounds.
The head of government affirmed that submission to the judiciary and the state is the true guarantee of rights and the most sincere path to preserving life and dignity. He pointed out that the Libyan judiciary remains, despite all challenges, an independent national institution and a sanctuary for justice.
He added that the Libya they are working for is a state of law and institutions, where differences are managed through dialogue and deference to the will of the people, not through violence or the reproduction of past tragedies.
The head of government noted that Libya has experienced this method at various stages of its history, and its results have been to distance Libyans from the project of a unifying state and prolong the conflict. He called for the necessity of maintaining trust in state institutions and the path of justice to fully reveal the truth and establish accountability, away from the logic of revenge or justification.
He said that this nation is spacious enough for all who choose to sincerely engage in the project of one state and one flag, considering this a real opportunity for supporters of this current to transition from the logic of alignment to the logic of the state. This should be based on a break with the methods of the past and full commitment to the rules and institutions of the state.
He denounced any attempt to infringe upon the right of the deceased’s family or the Gaddafa tribe to hold funeral ceremonies, or to restrict the duty of human consolation among Libyans, or to impose any security measures that fall outside authentic Libyan human values and social customs.
