Liverpool defender and captain Virgil van Dijk appeared frustrated after his team’s 3-2 loss to Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
He stated: “I am very disappointed, because conceding a goal in the last minute to lose is always difficult, especially after we put in a huge effort in the second half to get back into the game.”
Regarding his protest to the referee after the third goal, he said: “I felt I was blocked by opposition players during the throw-in, but the referee and VAR decided to award the goal, and I don’t think it was the right call.”
He added: “The first goal was due to a misjudgment because of the strong wind, and it was tough. Generally, conceding two goals in 7 minutes isn’t terrible, but it’s not good either. The goal we scored in the first half was important for us to stay strong in the match.”
He noted: “But in the end, we lost to a goal from a throw-in. It’s easy after the match to point fingers, but what’s done is done. A loss is always a painful feeling for any player, and we are trying to find consistency this season.”
He concluded: “There is no question about the togetherness of our team, but we still need to find the consistency we are looking for. We have to deal with the reality, perform well, and win matches.”
