Hugo Ekitike doubled Liverpool’s lead with a header in the 66th minute, but the visiting team then retreated, allowing substitute Richarlison to reduce the deficit for Tottenham after confusion in the visitors’ defense in the 83rd minute.
The match ended with a tense finale, as Liverpool had to withstand pressure for nine minutes of added time, while Tottenham felt they could avoid a negative club record of an 11th league defeat within a single calendar year.
Tottenham finished the match with 9 players, after their captain was sent off for receiving a second yellow card.
Liverpool’s performance was not convincing at all, and they struggled in the end against 9 players, but the win took their points tally to 29, placing them 5th, while Tottenham dropped to 17th place with 22 points.
