Tripoli, July 23, 2026 (LANA) – The neighborhood of Abu Dhar al-Ghifari in the Abu Salim municipality witnessed a protest on Wednesday evening organized by a number of local youth, in protest of the ongoing power outages, amid demands for urgent intervention to restore the service and end the residents’ suffering.
Following the protest, the member of the municipal council and head of the crisis committee in the Abu Salim municipality, Al-Siddiq al-Abbasi, went to the gathering site, where he met with the protesters and listened to their demands and observations, affirming the municipality’s commitment to follow up on citizens’ conditions and convey their suffering to the relevant authorities, and to work on finding urgent solutions to mitigate the effects of the crisis.
As part of the response to the demands, al-Abbasi made a direct call to the General Director of the General Electricity Company, Abdullah Ahmouda, during which he called for immediate intervention and the assignment of specialized maintenance teams to repair the damaged power cable and restore electricity to the area as quickly as possible, given the suffering caused by the continuous outages for the residents, especially with the significant rise in temperatures.
The Abu Salim municipality confirmed in a post on its page early Thursday morning that it continues to follow up on this file with the relevant authorities, to ensure the acceleration of fixing the fault and restoring the electricity service, based on its responsibility to follow up on citizens’ needs and ensure the continuity of basic services.
