FC Barcelona is close to finalizing one of its most notable attacking deals during the transfer window, after club president Joan Laporta confirmed the team is nearing an agreement to sign German international winger Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund.
Laporta said on Monday, on the sidelines of his presence in Dallas for World Cup events, that Barcelona’s management is very pleased with the possibility of signing Adeyemi, noting that the club has been tracking the player for a long time.
The Catalan club president explained that Adeyemi has the speed and ability to create attacking threats, emphasizing that Sporting Director Deco played a key role in managing the deal and advancing negotiations to an advanced stage.
Despite Laporta’s statements, Barcelona has not yet made an official announcement regarding the completion of the deal. Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund revealed that the player missed the team’s medical checks on Sunday after receiving permission from the club to hold talks with another team.
According to Spanish media reports, Barcelona and Dortmund have reached a preliminary agreement on the deal, which includes a base fee of 22 million euros, along with 7 million euros in additional incentives tied to specific clauses.
Adeyemi is expected to sign a contract with Barcelona extending until 2031, after joining Borussia Dortmund in 2022 from Red Bull Salzburg for 30 million euros.
The deal holds special significance for German coach Hansi Flick, Barcelona’s current manager, as he was the one who decided to give Karim Adeyemi his debut with the German national team in 2021 during his tenure as head coach of the German side.
Adeyemi has 11 international appearances for Germany but was not included in the squad for the 2026 World Cup.
