The head of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, welcomed the heroes of the unified national football team for the Special Olympics, who won the World Cup for Unified Football held in the French capital, Paris, in 2026.
Dbeibeh praised the honorable performance and high spirit shown by the players during the tournament, which culminated in the team’s victory over Jamaica with a score of 3-1 in the final match.
The Prime Minister affirmed that this achievement reflects the capabilities of Libyan youth and their determination to achieve success and raise the nation’s flag in international forums.
Dbeibeh renewed his affirmation of the government’s support for athletes from all categories and its commitment to providing the necessary resources to enable them to achieve further accomplishments, enhancing Libya’s presence on the international sports scene.
The Special Olympics oversees the unified football competitions, which rely on the participation of players with intellectual disabilities alongside partner players without disabilities on the same team.
