Brega Oil Marketing Company announces that it is supplying power plants with diesel fuel to help compensate for the shortage of natural gas, the main source of electricity generation in the country.
In a statement, the company said gas is the primary fuel used to operate most power plants, and that production and supply fall under the responsibility of gas producers.
Brega explained that it provides diesel as backup fuel when gas pressure drops or supply declines, helping to keep generation units running and reduce power outages until normal gas flows resume. It confirmed that large quantities of diesel have recently been directed to power plants to support grid stability.
The company also acknowledged pressures on diesel supplies, pointing to challenges facing the road transport sector and truck drivers. Brega said it continues to manage inventory and distribution based on national priorities and available capacities to balance the demand for electricity generation and the local market.
