The audience at the Cairo Opera House will be treated to an exceptional Libyan artistic evening this coming Saturday, as the Cairo Symphony Orchestra performs the symphonic piece “Desert Melodies” by the pioneering Libyan composer of symphonic works.
The evening will be held on Saturday, February 21st, at 9:30 PM on the Main Stage of the Cairo Opera House. The event is expected to attract classical music enthusiasts and those interested in Arab symphonic experiments, especially as the work is considered one of the most prominent compositions to have drawn inspiration from the Libyan spirit within a global orchestral framework.
“Desert Melodies” holds a special significance in the journey of Libyan musical composition, blending local rhythms and the melodic texture of the desert with Western symphonic structure. This experience reintroduces the Libyan musical identity through a refined orchestral language.
The composer is considered one of the most prominent figures of classical music in Libya and the first to establish the current of Libyan symphonic composition on clear academic foundations. His career has been dedicated to developing orchestral music in his country, and he has written a number of symphonic and instrumental works inspired by the Libyan environment with its desert and maritime heritage, merging local sensibility with Western classical structure.
Cairo Opera House
The Cairo Opera House, opened in 1988, is the main performing arts venue in Egypt and part of Cairo’s National Cultural Centre. It was built with funding from the Japanese government and stands as a replacement for the original Khedivial Opera House, which was destroyed by fire in 1971.
