Benghazi, February 12, 2026 – The Financial Crimes and Money Laundering Control Apparatus has called on citizens to exercise caution and be wary of electronic manipulation attempts targeting their bank accounts. These attempts come via text messages, electronic links, or phone calls impersonating banks or official entities.
The Apparatus confirmed in a statement the importance of not sharing any secret codes, banking data, or personal information through suspicious links or calls, regardless of the entity claiming to be in contact. It emphasized that protecting banking data is a shared responsibility requiring constant awareness from citizens.
The Apparatus urged citizens to go directly to bank branches or communicate through approved official channels if they receive any message or call that raises suspicion, in order to safeguard their funds and account security. It noted that it is following up on hundreds of reports related to crimes of embezzling funds from citizens who fell victim to local and international criminal networks specializing in electronically stealing accounts and bank cards, exploiting the deception of some victims by fraudulent messages and calls.
The Apparatus reiterated that banks operating in Libya do not request their clients to provide secret codes or banking data via messages or phone calls. Any transactions related to bank accounts require the client’s personal presence at the bank’s headquarters or dealing through approved official channels. It considered any communication that violates this to be a fraud attempt that warrants no response and requires immediate reporting.
