Tripoli, February 08, 2026 – The Acting Minister of Interior, Major General “Imad Al-Tarabulsi,” discussed with the Maltese Ambassador to Libya, “Franklin Aquilina,” ways to enhance joint security cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the fields of training, capacity building, and combating illegal migration.

The meeting, which was attended by the Maltese Consul in Tripoli, “Sean Chercop,” and the Special Envoy, “Alexander Daley,” addressed the importance of developing security coordination mechanisms and exchanging expertise between the two sides. This contributes to raising the efficiency of security agencies and supporting training and qualification programs according to approved professional standards, enhancing readiness to face various security challenges.

The two sides also reviewed the issue of illegal migration as a common challenge, emphasizing the importance of intensifying cooperation in securing borders, combating migrant smuggling and human trafficking networks, and strengthening joint action to serve security and stability in the region.

During the meeting, Major General “Al-Tarabulsi” affirmed the Ministry of Interior’s keenness to expand areas of partnership with the Maltese side and support technical and training cooperation, contributing to building an effective and capable security institution that can perform its duties efficiently and competently.
