Tripoli, February 8, 2026 – The neurosurgery and spinal surgery team at Ali Omar Askar Hospital successfully performed a complex and delicate operation yesterday, Saturday, to correct spinal curvature in an 18-year-old girl. This was among a number of successful surgeries recently performed at the hospital.

Medical sources at Ali Omar Askar Hospital stated that the surgical procedure, during which the medical team managed to correct the curvature and stabilize the spine to ensure the patient’s condition, lasted 8 consecutive hours and was successful thanks to the skills of the medical team and cooperation with the anesthesia department.

The sources noted that this rare surgical procedure is the first of its kind performed at Ali Omar Askar Hospital in years, given the limited circumstances and capabilities. They indicated that the girl had undergone a previous surgery six months ago, but it failed to correct the curvature, which affected her daily life.

The sources explained that the second surgery was performed on a 23-year-old woman who was suffering from lower back pain. After conducting the necessary medical examinations and CT scans, it was found that there was a weakness in the disc canal between the fourth lumbar vertebra and the first sacral vertebra. She underwent a disc removal and canal expansion procedure.

The third case involved a 46-year-old woman suffering from stenosis of the thoracic spinal canal and spondylolisthesis between the lumbar vertebrae. She underwent a procedure to expand and stabilize the spinal canal. It was clarified that the surgery was performed using a minimally invasive technique with a microscope, and the patients are in stable condition and recovering.

According to the sources, the medical team that performed the surgeries included specialists in neurosurgery, assistant doctors, anesthesiology specialists, anesthesia technicians, and a radiology technician.
