Developers have created a new application designed to help Mac users improve their sitting posture while working at the computer by automatically alerting them when they slouch or sit incorrectly.

The open-source app is named Posturr and runs on the macOS operating system. It gradually blurs the computer screen when the user is not sitting upright, making the contents unclear and unreadable until the posture is corrected.

The developers point out that sitting with correct posture contributes to proper spinal alignment, reduces muscle strain, and helps prevent chronic pain by maintaining the balance of bones and joints.

The app features a gradual effect. If the user is slightly slouched, the blurring is limited, allowing them to quickly correct their posture. However, in cases of significant slouching or leaning, the blurring intensifies, making the screen unreadable.

The app allows users to adjust their ideal sitting posture according to personal preferences, as well as control the intensity of the blurring effect through the program’s settings.

Posturr relies on the device’s built-in webcam and uses Apple’s Vision Framework to continuously analyze images. This makes the app exclusively available for Mac devices and incompatible with Windows.

The app also provides daily or weekly statistics, enabling users to track the improvement of their posture over time.

The application can be downloaded for free from the GitHub platform for developers, without the need to register an account or pay any fees.

All data processing is done locally on the device, without any connection or tracking of users.
