The English Football Association announced on Friday that it has fined Chelsea £150,000 ($203,265) after a plastic bottle was thrown from the team’s technical area towards the coaching staff of their opponent Aston Villa, following the visitors’ 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League last month.
It stated that an independent regulatory commission imposed the fine after Chelsea admitted the charge.
The charge was brought earlier this month following the throwing of the bottle, which media reports said contained water, during Villa’s celebration of the win on December 27th.
The match referee, Stuart Attwell, wrote in his report on the incident: “I was informed of an allegation that an unidentified member of Chelsea’s technical staff threw a plastic bottle in the direction of the technical area.”
Chelsea, currently in sixth place, will play away on Sunday, at the same time that third-placed Villa plays at home.
