Paris Hilton during a press conference promoting the passage of the “Defiance Act” at the Capitol Building, Thursday, January 22, 2026, in Washington.

Businesswoman Paris Hilton joined U.S. Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in a rally in front of the Capitol Building, calling for strict federal legislation to protect victims of fake pornography created by “deepfake” technologies.

During her speech on Thursday, Hilton compared the non-consensual leak of a private video of her in the early 2000s to the current “epidemic” fueled by artificial intelligence that targets women and girls through the production of false sexual content. She revealed that she has personally been subjected to over 100,000 such fake images.

These efforts aim to accelerate the passage of the “Defiance Act” (DEFIANCE) in the House of Representatives, after it was unanimously approved in the Senate. This legislation grants victims the legal right to sue creators or distributors of non-consensual digital sexual content.

These moves come amid sharp criticism of some AI tools, such as the “Grok” chatbot, which has faced accusations of facilitating the creation of images that strip women and minors of their clothing, despite the developing company’s attempts to impose technical restrictions to limit these abuses.

A Legally Punishable Assault
Internationally, the pace of legislation to confront this challenge is accelerating. While the European Union is adopting an “AI Act” to label digitally generated content, countries like the United Kingdom and France have passed laws imposing financial penalties and prison sentences on distributors of pornography made with “deepfakes.”

The movement led by Hilton in Washington represents a pivotal step in transforming victims’ suffering from “just a scandal” into a legally punishable assault, ensuring individuals can regain control over their images and digital reputations.
